The Bath

Inspired by the dialogue between man and his natural environment this state of the art bathroom, conceived for a nature photographer, is set deep in an imaginary jungle. Like photography itself the design is an exploration of the juxtaposition of dark and light colors and materials, matte and glossy finishes, the natural and the man made. Framed views lead you through a series of spaces that define the rituals of the bath and dressing room. Using the latest innovations from the world of design the room manifests the dynamic relationship of contrasting materials, clean geometry, and modern fixtures.

The dressing area utilizes highly polished walnut and white lacquer, creating a functional space where the experience is both visual and tactile, even underfoot, where natural sisal carpet has been reinvented as tile. The bathroom area is defined by the interplay of porcelain and stone tile and incorporates ergonomically designed fixtures and faucets designed for comfort and sustainability. The circular flow culminates in the center of the room with a freestanding bath contoured to the shape of the human body; situated on a limestone floor and under a dramatic linen shade, the bath is the symbolic focus of the relationship of man and water, earth and sky, architecture and nature.

Views of an exotic jungle fill open windows, blurring the distinction between inside and outside... Is it a photograph or paradise found?
